Navagraha Mantras
Sometimes a planet becomes extremely negative in a horoscope and keeps on bothering and troubling the native more and more in spite of the native wearing the gemstones for the positive planets and doing other remedies for the negative planets. In such cases, the Mantra for the extremely negative planet is prescribed. Chanting the Mantra of a particular planet for a specific number of times in a given time frame helps reducing the negative effects of the planet.
Mantras can also be chanted for positive planets. By chanting Mantras for a planet which is positive in your horoscope, the planet will start gaining strength as the Mantras will transmit the energy of the planet into your body in the same way the gemstones do, though the mechanism of gemstones and Mantras are different. And if you are chanting the Mantras for a planet which is negative in your horoscope, the negative effect of the planet will start reducing as you keep on chanting the Mantra for that planet. So the Mantras can be used for both the positive and negative planets. But the use of Mantras is still very limited in astrology in spite of the fact that they can be used for both negative and positive planets. This is mainly due to the reason that Mantras start showing significant effects very slowly compared to gemstones. Also the proper pronunciation and rhythm is very important in case of Mantras.
And apart from the above mentioned things, there are some codes of cleanliness and disciplines which should be followed while chanting the Mantras. Due to these reasons people are generally not willing to chant the Mantras as it requires a great deal of effort and discipline on their part. That is why gemstones and other remedies are prescribed as they are simple to do and do not require any discipline or very little discipline. So it is comparatively very easy for a person to wear gemstones rather than chant the Mantras for the positive planets.
But in case of a negative planet, Mantras are the best remedy. And to raise a big count of a specific Mantra in a very short duration, a Pooja is performed in which the Mantra for a specific planet is chanted by expert Pandits on behalf of the native and the resultant energy and effects are transferred to the native. A count of 125,000 Mantras for a specific planet is chanted in a Pooja by the Pandits in a period of 3-7 days whereas it can take years if the native himself decides to chant the same count of a specific Mantra. So in case you are interested in chanting the Mantra for some planet, be patient as it can take long to very long time before the Mantra starts showing effects. It is very important to learn the exact rhythm of the Mantra. Mantras are like voice passwords and are not likely to work properly or at all if not chanted with the exact proper rhythm. Let's now go ahead and have a look at the Mantras for different planets.
Here are the Basic Mantras for Nine Planets or NavaGraha according to Vedic Astrology.
Soorya (Sun) Mantra : Om Sooryaay Namah
Chandra (Moon) Mantra : Om Chandraay Namah
Guru (Jupiter) Mantra : Om Gurve Namah
Shukra (Venus) Mantra : Om Shukraay Namah
Mangal (Mars) Mantra : Om Bhaumaay Namah
Budh (Mercury) Mantra : Om Budhaay Namah
Shani (Saturn) Mantra : Om ShanichRaay Namah
Rahu (North Node) Mantra : Om Raahve Namah
Ketu (South Node) Mantra : Om Ketve Namah
Apart from these Mantras there are short Beej Mantras, Detailed Beej Mantras and Stotras for NavaGraha or Nine Planets and specific Mantras for Kaal Sarp Dosh, Manglik Dosh, Pitra Dosh, Dasha Dosh etc. in vedic astrology. But Chanting of Basic NavaGraha Mantras for as many times a day as is prescribed by an Astrologer is generally sufficient. But in extreme case, chanting of Beej Mantras for NavaGraha are prescribed. The Beej Mantras for NavaGraha are :

I pray to the Sun, the day-maker, destroyer of
all sins, the enemy of darkness, of great
brilliance, the descendent of Kaashyapa, the
one who shines like the japaa flower.
Chandra mantra
dadhishaNkhatushhaaraabhaM kshiirodaarNavasaMbhavamh
namaami shashinaM somaM shambhormukuTabhuushhaNamh
I pray to the Moon who shines coolly like curds
or a white shell, who arose from the ocean
of milk, who has a hare on him, Soma, who
is the ornament of Shiva's hair.
Mangal mantra
dharaNiigarbhasaMbhuutaM vidyutkaantisamaprabhamh
kumaaraM shaktihastaM cha maNgalaM praNamaamyahamh
I pray to Mars, born of Earth, who shines
with the same brilliance as lightning, the
young man who carries a spear.
Budh mantra
priyaNhgukalikaashyaamaM ruupeNaapratimaM budhamh
saumyaM saumyaguNopetaM taM budhaM praNamaamyahamh
I pray to Mercury, dark like the bud of millet,
of unequalled beauty, gentle and agreeable.
Guru mantra
devaanaaM cha RishhiiNaaM cha gurumchanasa.nnibhamh
buddhibhuutaM trilokeshaM taM namaami bRihaspatimh
I pray to Jupiter, the teacher of gods and
rishis, intellect incarnate, lord of the
three worlds.
Shukra mantra
himakundamRiNaalaabhaM daityaanaaM paramaM gurumh
sarvashaastrapravaktaaraM bhaargavaM praNamaamyahamh
I pray to Venus, the utimate preceptor of
demons, promulgator of all learning, he who
shines like the fiber of snow-white jasmine.
Shani mantra
niilaanjanasamaabhaasaM raviputraM yamaagrajamh
chhaayaamaartaNDasaMbhuutaM taM namaami shanaishcharam.h
I pray to Saturn, the slow moving, born of
Shade and Sun, the elder brother of Yama,
the offspring of Sun, he who has the
appearance of black collyrium.
Rahu mantra
ardhakaayaM mahaaviiryan chandraadityavimardanamh
sinhikaagarbhasaMbhuutaM taM raahuM praNamaamyahamh
I pray to Rahu, having half a body, of great
bravery, the eclipser of the Moon and the Sun,
born of Simhikaa.
Ketu mantra
palaashapushhpasa nkaashaM taarakaagrahamastakamh
raudraM raudraatmakaM ghoraM taM ketuM praNamaamyahamh
I pray to Ketu, who has the appearance of
Palaasha flower, the head of stars and planets,
fierce and terrifying.
iti vyaasamukhodgiitaM yaH paThetsusamaahitaH
divaa vaa yadi vaa raatrau vighna shaantirbhavishhyati
Those who read the song sung by VyAsa,
will be joyous, sovereign and powerful,
and will succeed in appeasing obstacles,
occurring by day or by night.
naranaariinRipaaNaaM cha bhavedduHsvapnanaashanamh
aishvaryamatulaM teshhaamaarogyaM pushhTivardhanam
Bad dreams of men, women and kings alike
will be destroyed and they will be endowed
with unparalleled riches, good health and
enhancing nourishment.
gRihanakshatrajaaH piiDaastaskaraagnisamud hbhavaaH .
taaH sarvaaH prashamaM yaanti vyaaso bruute na sanshayaH
All the pain, devastation caused by
fire, planets and stars will be of
the past, so spoke VyAsa, emphatically.
